Since my last post was poofed because there was a shopping link somewhere on the page. I found the video on YouTube. This is cleaning a cast iron skillet with great instructions! We have all talked about the care of cast iron before, but this video is a great visual how to!
If people didn't want others to provide links to instructional materials that may also have undesirable links, then they should develop their own educational videos and articles!

I don't have or want cast iron, but, my husband bought home an article saying your suppose to use salt and cut a potato in half and after you let the pan soak you use the salt and cut potato to scrub the things out.
I got a black skillet he thought was heavy cast iron, but, informed him it's half aluminum and you can use dish detergent and half the wgt to lug around .

I love my cast iron skillets. Food tastes so good cooked in cast iron.

That's true, especially chicken gray, but, to much clean up.
Can't touch the handles on those things either will burn you.

I've had cast iron for years and learned to take care of it from my mom. I'm not sure why so many people make it complicated. I just wash mine with dish detergent and a scrubby sponge and dry it in the oven or on the stove. It's not a big deal at all. I have newer pans and vintage ones that are over 100 years old. I have no sticking issues and my pans have great seasoning and never rust.

They say your not suppose to use dish liquids in 'em why I steer clear all I know is Sam's club skillets are the best for me.

People that don't know what they're talking about do. That's just an old wives tale leftover from when dish soap was made with lye. Modern dish detergent does not hurt cast iron seasoning at all.

Hope not for all the ones using 'em. Good news !

I've always cleaned mine with a wad of paper towel when finished cooking while it was still hot. Food doesn't stick then, but if there was any, I use salt with a paper towel. This is how my grandmother did it, so I do it too! It works and keeps the skillet clean and naturally non-stick. I love cast iron and enameled cast iron. They are heavy though! I can see why a lighter weight version has been invented. I might try them someday when some of my other skillets bite the dust.
