Re: Chex Mix -- No Longer Fashionable?

Not a fan of the oyster crackers either; I’d rather have chips, or popcorn than this type of snack.

@staciesmom

The recipe I have has more ingredients in the sauce.  Butter, garlic,celery salt, seasoned salt, worchestershire sauce, A-1 sauce, Tabasco and red hot sauce.  Smiley Very Happy

@AuntMame, well, if you wold have invited me to your party I would have gobbled it up! Seriously, I love it. I agree with another comment that since you can buy it in the snack aisle, it probably isn't so special like it used to be. That said - the homemade is still the best.

We still eat it. Love it. We usually make it during the Holidays.

I use Crispix instead of buying 3 different boxes of Chex.

I add pretzels, cheez-it's, pecans, mixed nuts, bagel chips & crispix.

Re: Chex Mix -- No Longer Fashionable?

I still make a big bowl of Chex mix for our Christmas party; Pinterest has tons of recipes and I go there to find a different one every year.  Last year I did an Italian one that had parmesan cheese.

i can say that my hidden valley ranch oyster crackers go over a lot bigger than chex mix. it also makes a good food gift when you put it into a cute tin or other packaging.

I've never tried to make chex mix but might make a batch for the holidays this year.  We usually have a bag of the savory chex mix on hand for car trips.

However I'm definitely making @sunshine45's Hidden Valley Ranch Oyster Crackers. Thanks for posting that recipe.

Love it and would definitely eat it at a party. Make it around holidays and we eat it all. Smiley Happy

Hey fellow foodies, here's a question: Do people still eat/love Chex Mix?

Has Chex mix fallen out of fashion?

It is still a Christmas tradition at our house. My grown, married son has started it with his inlaws every year too. Over the years, we have adapted it a bit (mixed nuts, bagel chip pieces instead of pretzels, white cheddar crackers) but it is basically the same. I look forward to it every year and the store bought kind is not even close to the deliciousness. ☺

Re: Chex Mix -- No Longer Fashionable?

I'm 67 and have made Chex Mix for years, starting around Thanksgiving and more around Christmas.  Our youngest son preferred it to cookies and would get a tin of it during finals' week when he was in college; he didn't share with roommates!  I make ours heavy on the spices, including cayenne powder, chili powder and Tony's seasoning.  Chex, Cheerios, pretzel's and peanuts are my main ingredients.
