Re: Check those Grocery Receipts

I grocery shop once a month in person at Wal-Mart and Meijer.  Although I do find that occasionally I'm charged a little more for an item than what was labeled on either store shelf, more times than not, I'm charged a little less than what was labeled on the shelf which is always a nice surprise.  I'm not sure if they just forgot to put up the correct shelf price of something that is on sale or what exactly.

Re: Check those Grocery Receipts

If I'm not doing self-checkout, after finishing bagging, I leave the cashier and step aside to read my receipt.

I don't want to go back another time to deal with an overcharge, so I don't ever leave the store without checking prices.

I actually prefer self-checkout.  Honestly, I NEVER overcharge myself, LOL.  Woman LOL Woman LOL Woman LOL

Re: Check those Grocery Receipts

Yeah, self-checkout is great. I'm doing more online grocery shopping also, and having it delivered. It's fast, easy, and pretty cost-effective. The delivery people are generally very good, and you can see exactly what the pricing is as you're making your order. No shelf labels that are out of date or misleading.  And the store shoppers know exactly where everything is while I'm often a bit lost in the store and relying on the overhead signs.

I think the future of grocery shopping may be all online. Use warehouses instead of more expensive storefronts. Warehouses generally cost less to rent than commercial storefronts. They don't need fancy displays or stocking. Big walk-in fridges and freezers instead of twenty or more individual ones. Maybe go with the WYSIWYG (what you see is what you get) with higher-end cuts of meat or produce.

In general, the more of something you buy, the less you pay per item. With a large warehouse, you can buy a lot of products at once. Less shoplifting. Fewer idiots taking something from a freezer and putting it on a shelf when they decide they don't want it. No money on fancy displays. Just a website and a warehouse with a fleet of delivery drivers.

New Jersey is becoming a large warehouse state with dozens going up every year. Despite many still being empty. It could be a good place to test the concept. A fully virtual grocery store. No storefront, just the best possible prices on what you want/need.

Re: Check those Grocery Receipts

A little off topic...I rarely use cash in the supermarket..I did last week only because I needed a few things I forgot.

Here the cashiers are always asking if you want to donate or round up your total for whatever cause ....I donate to certain causes on my own... I was not asked when I looked at my receipt when I got home there was a donation to the RED CROSS! Guess that was the cause of the week. have never had that when I pay with my CC..I was furious..not at the amt. just the idea  that I wasn't asked!..

Next trip a went to the same cashier on purpose!..I loudly told her don't add any extras to my bill..Just because I'm old and gray...doesn't mean I'm deaf, blind at stupid!..I made sure others on the line heard me and I said check your receipts before leaving!

I also said similar to a Dr. who didn't think I heard her make a remark while her back was turned to me me! Only I reported her to her boss.

I would only use a delivery option if I were on my deathbed.

I'm an obsessive label reader, especially when considering something new.

Correct me if I'm wrong, but what can't be seen with online ordering is the special clearance or markdowns managers make. I love getting a good deal on something I'd buy, anyway!   Woman Happy

Re: Check those Grocery Receipts

Speaking of store receipts, always check to see if the back of the receipt has a quick survey for you to sign on and fill out.

Some stores have a monthly drawing and can pay several hundred dollars or a gift certificate.

I never bothered but knew a gal who did it religiously.  She felt that since most people don't do the survey, her odds are higher.

A couple people mocked her .... until she won $500 !!!

True story.

I shop at Meijer and always scan my own groceries and watch as the amount comes up.

Re: Check those Grocery Receipts

Yes--I do check---I mostly do my grocery shopping online and always check the prices on the receipt next to the online prices. Have had a couple things I've had to chat with their CS about and got them refunded without any issues. And the cashier not noticing a bag of $75 oranges??? What the h@LL?? Were they sleep checking???  When I cashiered during my retail days, I ALWAYS took notice of obvious prices like that!!!

Re: Check those Grocery Receipts

I have read that dollar general stores over charge people all the time and expect there employees to punch out when there scheduled to leave.punch out and stay longer to get other stuff done. We have a dollar general near us.I went in there twice both times employees are rude and I have never gone in there again.
