Can I freeze my cheese balls? Seriously.

I have a recipe for a cheese ball that uses cream cheese, pepper jack and cheddar - in addition to some other things. It looks like too much for what I need. I was wondering if I can make two and freeze one? It will be easier than cutting the recipe in half.

Has anyone tried this with success?

LOL, house cat - Seriously, yes you can. I have successfully frozen cheese balls made with cream cheese many times. The one I make is covered in chopped almonds which keeps it from sticking to the plastic wrap. If yours isn't, I would take off the plastic before you let it defrost.

Well, I'm really glad it finally warmed up, because I have been freezing my cheese balls here in the Land of Oz.{#emotions_dlg.laugh} (Sorry, couldn't resist{#emotions_dlg.devil2})

I agree with shannara, yes, just remove the plastic wrap before thawing. Wrap it tightly with plastic and then put it inside a Lock n Lock or a freezer bag.

This is the recipe I used.

I made two balls out of it and based on the advice here, I'm going to freeze one.

Thank you, everyone.

You're supposed to hold off on the almonds or whatever kind of nuts you use, and after it thaws, then roll it in the nuts. Worked for me. I like the tip about removing the waxed paper or whatever before thawing.

This is good to know. I always thought freezing cream cheese compromised the texture. I froze a block once and after defrosting it became watery and crumbly--to the point where I had to throw it out.

How did the peppers do with freezing, as I am more concerned with them, as opposed with the cheeses.........as they do not do well with general use after freezing........{#emotions_dlg.confused1} I have saved the recipe in my cookbook for later use, as the combination is wonderful......Cool
