I purchased the slotted set and so far love them. But, as I read the reviews some are saying they do not hold up and are losing the finish and are splitting. Others have mentioned wiping them down with mineral oil frequently after washing and using. Of course, I will hand wash them and not leave them to soak in anything. Anyone else have good or bad thoughts on these handy little kitchen tools?

I use mineral oil periodically on all my wooden tools.

I've had mine for over a year and there are no problems with them. I hand wash mine. I do know that the high heat from the dishwasher will split wooden utensils.

I'd need a plastic one, I've never had wood utensils hold up well for me.

I have the spurtles without the slots. I really like using these spurtles ... it is a good idea. However after only using them 3 or 4 times (I always hand washed them) they began to split on both sides. That is because they are not made out of a solid piece of wood. They are made out of several pieces of bamboo which have been glued together. I found a website that sells spurtles made in the USA out of good solid wood. They are great! IMHO the ones sold by QVC are not worth the money. ""

I don't own the Spurtles, but I purchased a set of bamboo cooking utensils in a specialty kitchen store. The man told me they were dishwasher safe. I was very surprised to hear this. I don't put them in the dishwasher as I was taught to never put wooden items in a dishwasher. (I was also told I could put my Cutco knives in the dishwasher! Just the thought makes me cringe!) I'm surprised there is a problem with the Spurtles, which are bamboo, even when given proper care. It sounds like bamboo is the best thing since sliced bread!

Would you mind sharing the info on the other spurtles? Where to order...Website, Mfg. name etc?

I have the original spurtles and have had no problems with them at all...however, I would love to purchase another set and would prefer a different company.

I'd appreciate greatly any info you would share!! TIA

I purchased the set with the little tray, a while back, mostly just because I wanted the little wood tray for another purpose.

I haven't even used them, but I do have a number of wood utensils that I've had for many years and, assuming the quality is decent (most of mine are olive wood from either Spain or France), they should last well. Some of my olive wood utensils I've had for decades.

If these are a bunch of little pieces of wood glued together, however, they probably won't last as well but, assuming they haven't broken apart with use, you can probably get a lot of use with proper maintenance.

With all my wood utensils I always wash AND DRY them after use. Then I use either my Boos Mystery Oil or Boos Board Cream on them. It's very important to dry wood utensils after hand-washing and never let them sit around wet or dirty after use.
