This just makes me laugh!  We are now willing to pay big bucks for a burnt, end piece of meat.  Brisket used to be considered a cut of meat you used when your freezer was getting empty and you had to use it up.  My, how times have changed.

Our local B-B-Que joint sells burnt ends. This is brisket prepared with a rub mix that is smoked for hours. The ends are cut away to expose the moist meat in the interior. The ends are sold as burnt ends. I do not like them. There is too much rub and bark.

DH makes our BBQ. I don't like all the bark either. The older I get the more my stomach doesn't like it.

Some BBQ places have Creosote buildup that causes it to taste bitter. Also numb effect to the tongue. I hate that.

I don't like the packaged ones I have tried.

Only a TV shopping channel would try to sell the burned meat that most people either throw out or feed to the dog.

I love a good smoked brisket so yes to naturally burnt ends. Packaged burnt ends usually have some ingredients that I try to avoid.

@brandiwine That wasn't the case where I grew up!  It is treasured meat for those that know how to run a real barbeque pit, and people who love a roast cooked low and slow even in the oven.

Brisket is much loved out in the Texas, Oklahoma area!  That is what we think of and mean when we say "barbeque". Pork bbq is something if you can't get brisket.

I don't eat burnt ends because my palate can't handle anything charred or bitter, but a very good BBQ restaurant in our area offers them as a Friday special and they're sold out within the first hour every single week. With the high demand and long lines, most people who don't want the burnt ends don't show up to the place until 1:00 or so on Fridays just to avoid the craziness.
