Re: Brownies: Frosted or Unfrosted

I like brownies with a caramel glaze.

When I want something sweet, I ask, chocolate or caramel?

With a caramel glazed brownie, I get both!

I vote for unfrosted.  I have a sweet tooth, but brownies are so good already, who needs the extra calories.

Re: Brownies: Frosted or Unfrosted

I'll eat them both ways, but to be honest brownies don't make me swoon. I don't care for "chewy" brownies or cookies.  I guess if I could have a dryer brownie with lots of walnuts and a thin layer of a hard fudge frosting I would be happy.  Must be something from childhood.

@KitTkat   Fun question.  Truthfully, I never have encountered a chocolate brownie I didn't like.  Mom wasn't a baker so my first brownie was the Sara Lee frosted with nuts from the grocery's freezer case.  Love chocolate and loved those.  Don't know if they still make them.

Fast forward to high school/young adulthood--Joy of Cooking Brownies Cocaigne* recipe--baked my own and never looked back--so, for me, cakelike, no nuts (to please others I bake for), no frosting version and I add a quarter teaspoon of real almond extract as my secret ingredient and always bake a double recipe batch.  So good that a small square is just fine.  If I want to gild the lily, freshly whipped cream on top of it is the bomb.

Now, having read through this thread I MUST bake brownies this week!

*Using Middle French spelling so the word thrasher perhaps won't asterisk out the whole innocent word which references a medieval mythical land of plenty.
