Does anyone here own a bread box? I really want one being I make my own bread all the time, and I've checked Amazon, has some two layered ones, thought that would be perfect for my counter and I can store the butter there too plus other things.

It's around $30.00.

I have a bread box--bought it in the 1970's--from a furniture store, unfinished and I stained it at home-- is wood , kind of an old time style with an oval glass panel on the front that says-----wait for it-----BREAD----Woman Very Happy It is just for storage tho, nothing fancy--it sits on my kitchen table. Has no real redeeming values---nothing that will keep the air out. It has a shelf that I have a small lamp on  and toothpicks and other stuff.

A few years ago I bought a bamboo bread box at Marshall's for around $25.  Sits on the kitchen counter and easily holds a big loaf of bread.  I used to put bread in the refrigerator but like it better in the bread box.

A friend of my husbands made bread boxes as well as those tater and onion boxes that were quite popular years ago.  The bread box was huge and with a galley kitchen, I had no counter space for something that big.  My husband eventually took it to the garage and used it for small tools.

Since my husband passed, I buy half loaves of bread and keep them in the refrigerator.

I have a clear plastic one with green edges I got years ago.  Can't remember if it was Tupperware or what company.  It's square so it takes up less room, but it doesn't hold a whole loaf.  Can't close the lid until I've used a few slices.  I wouldn't use it to store a whole loaf of homemade bread in it though.  They go bad too quickly.  When I do make bread, I put some of it in the freezer.

I can't see what purpose bread boxes serve other than to keep varmits out.  They're big and take up counter real estate.

I have a large oval turquoise metal one.  I don't think it's ever had bread in it as it would dry out.  I refrigerate my bread to extend its life.
