Does anyone have the recipe for the broccoli salad that was from Bob Bowersox's old cookbook? I donated the book and wish I had copied the recipe before doing so. Thanks for your help!! {#emotions_dlg.confused1}

Hi suanne,

First I wanted to thank you for requesting this. We love broccoli salad, but for some reason, we kind of forget about it. I am always on the lookout for new recipes, so I did an internet search and I think this might be the recipe you are looking for. I found it in a 2006 low country newspaper archive on the Beaufort library center of community.

TONI'S BROCCOLI SALAD DRESSING

2 cups mayonnaise

1/2 cup sugar

6 Tablespoons apple cider vinegar

16 slices cooked bacon (roughly 1 pound), drained

8 cups broccoli florets, washed and drained

1 large Bermuda onion, chopped

1/2 cup raisins

1. In a bowl, mix the dressing ingredients thoroughly, and set aside.

2. In a large skillet, cook the bacon until crisps. Drain bacon between sheets of absorbent paper towels, so as to pull as much grease from the bacon as possible.

3. In a large bowl, combine the remaining salad ingredients. Add bacon and dressing, and toss thoroughly.

I hope this is what you were looking for. It is similar to a recipe I like to make, but we substitute dried cranberries for the raisins (not big raisin fans). Looks like the answer to the What to make for dinner question.

Thanks again,

tkins

I remember that recipe - it was delicious. So glad to see it again, and I know I'll be making it for this weekend. Thanks for the reminder.

BTW, I seem to recall that Bob's wife's name was Toni. I wish he was back again!!

This looks so good - very much like the broccoli salad I buy at my local grocery. I've been on a broccoli-salad binge lately! The salad from the store here also adds pine nuts and/or sunflower seeds. Just yummy! I'll have to try this recipe here. Thanks for posting.

Yes, I checked this out and it is identical to the one in my copy of his book, which I couldn't find initially.

Oh how I miss Bob Bowersox!! He is the consummate professional. The shows he did in the early years where they allowed him to cook a couple of food recipes to completion were the best!! He is occasionally on ShopHQ demonstrating their enamel cookware and it is so wonderful to see this professionalism......No hype, just an expert at work!!

Is he still with HQ? I haven't seen him lately, Steve Bryant also seems missing in action. They seem to be fumbling with their kitchen lines, they bring one in and its soon on clearance.
