Beyond Meat Burgers at Aldi 10/2 Very Good!

Ok, I have been wanting to try these for so long so I was at Aldi when they opened to give them a try.  To be honest, at first glance I was pretty sure I may be returning the remainder back to Aldi but  . . . surprise, they are delicious!  Truly, truly very tasty and great texture.  I over fried mine a bit as I struggle with the temperature settings on my stove but wow, what a pleasant surprise!

If anyone wanted to give them a try the Aldi price is the best you will find (although they are pricey.  I thought you got four burgers but it turms out only two so it's like 2.25 a patty) but I so hope these catch on and the price drops down a bit.

Re: Beyond Meat Burgers at Aldi 10/2 Very Good!

It is the only meat alternative patty I eat. I have tried several others that just do not compare. Morning Star is my least favorite. The Beyond Meat burger patty holds up well on the grill, and once you add your favorite fixings to your burger, you cannot tell the difference . However, they are greasy. I do not like the taste and texture of  the Beyond Meat Crumbles.

Maybe I will give it a try some day. LOL!!!

If anyone else out there is asking what's in it I found the ingredients online. Here they are. What's up with all the cellulose plus it has MSG which is hidden under the yeast extract name.

Here's what's in a Beyond Burger:

  • Water
  • Pea protein isolate
  • Expeller-pressed canola oil
  • Refined coconut oil

The Beyond Burger also contains 2% or less of:

  • Cellulose from bamboo
  • Methylcellulose
  • Potato starch
  • Natural flavor
  • Maltodextrin
  • Yeast extract
  • Salt
  • Sunflower oil
  • Vegetable glycerin
  • Dried yeast
  • Gum arabic
  • Citrus extract (to protect quality)
  • Ascorbic acid (to maintain color)
  • Beet juice extract (for color)
  • Acetic acid
  • Succinic acid
  • Modified food starch
  • Annatto (for color)

According to Brown, this recipe isn't set in stone, as Beyond Meat is continuing to innovate and improve products.

Ultimately, Beyond Meat wants to create the "perfect replication" of meat products. Right now, Brown said, the company is about 70% of the way there.

I really wanted to try it but I can't eat pea protein isolate...makes me break out with cold sores terribly. Pea protein has lots of the amino acid arginine, a favorite food of cold sore virus. Can't eat peanuts and other seeds or nuts either. Such a bummer because I love that stuff.

Those ingredients look  like  faux meat patties are  an overly-processed and laboratory-engineered  food that I coudn't even bring myself to try.  But I'm glad some people like it!

I'm willing to try most things once.  This might be one that I won't.

If they taste like meat I woud not care for them. I do not like any meats.

I don't want a bunch of peas, oils and thickners and other odd things.  I'll stick with a 90 percent lean good quality burger.

Glad @SilleeMee mentioned the cold sore issue. I seem more susceptible to cold sores than the rest of my family so I probably shouldn't try them.
