I always buy baby spinach in the bag.     Since there is only two of us and we only eat it raw in salads we don't use it up too quickly.  Neither of us care for cooked spinach.    I keep it in a Rubbermaid Fresh Vent storage container with a sheet of paper towel in it.   I change the paper towel every few days but it still seems like the spinach wilts so quickly.

I realize it isn't all that terribly expensive but I still hate to throw so much of it away.   I wish you could buy it in a smaller bag.

Does anyone have any secret for keeping it fresh for more than just a few days?

Re: Best way to store Spinach?

For me only can say for romaine & iceberg lettuce is to wrap paper towels around it and put it in a debbie meyer green bag not tightly wrapped. I can get 2 weeks out of it but don't know about spinach. I only wash the lettuce when getting ready to use it. Also about every 4 days check on the lettuce to make sure no moisture is in the bag if so then I inside out the bag & reput the lettuce back in it. I am the opposite, love cooked spinach with ham or bacon than fresh but we like what we like. hope this works for you

It also helps to not wash it until you are going to use it.

Re: Best way to store Spinach?

I take all the greens out of the original containers/bags and spread them out on a towel to dry off; then I have a big Green Box that I line with paper towels on the bottom, put the greens in, then line the top with paper towels. I don't wash it either. Lasts me a long time. Seems like the bagged stuff turns brown the next day so I don't waste my $$ on them. But the stuff in the clamshell containers don't do that.

Re: Best way to store Spinach?

I buy my spinach in a bag already washed and ready to eat.

When I open the bag, the spinach is dry and dry not damp. I take out what I need and roll down the bag and put a clip on it.  I store it in the vegetable crisper of my refrigerator.

It lasts a long time.  I have never had a problem with wilting.

i only buy spinach in those clam shell boxes if I am going to use the whole box at one time...like for soup.

When it starts to go south on me I freeze it in a zip lock bag then use it in soups, casseroles, meatloaf, smoothies, or anything else I can think of!

Re: Best way to store Spinach?

leave it in the original bag

Cut open the top of the bag, remove what you need, place the bag on a hard surface and roll out the air from bottom to top, secure with a rubber band.

Spinach lasts weeks for me this way.

I roll out the air and secure bags of lettuces same way. Tender lettuce go bad before the expiration date unless I roll them after opening.

A vacuum roll and a rubber band does the job better, faster, and cheaper than all those expensive fasteners and storage containers.
