I store mine in the fridge or freezer for keeping longer.  For the open bags, I pour the sugar or flour in Lock n Lock.  Got rid of cannister set and keep flour and sugar in lock n lock in the cupboard out of sight.  Also use L n L for tea bags, panko, powdered milk, saltine crackers, etc. etc.

I also like these containers from Amazon since you can see thru them & are easy to pick up with the indention. They have different sizes you can use for dry goods, sugar, brown sugar, powdered sugar etc. They are food grade & BPA free.
