I am making chocolate chip cookies and the recipe calls for butter. I ran out of butter and I only have margarine. Can I use margarine instead ? Thanks.

Most definitely, you can.  I used to bake them all the time with margarine, you probably won't be able to tell the difference.

Regular margerine, but not low fat, fat free or whipped.

IMHO...yes you can but I can Definitely taste the difference!

I would not use a butter substitute magarine in a tub though, your cookies will spread too much.

If it were me...I'd run to the store!  LOL

I use the Imperial Margarine sticks for all my baking with no problems.

If you have some crisco use half that half regular margarine to help keep the cookies from going flat. They will go flat with all butter.

I'll be the lone dissenter - don't do it!

Go to the store and get some butter.

Of course you 'can' do whatever, but if you want better quality and better flavor, butter is the way to go.

Thanks for listening. Smiley Happy

Oh I never notice any difference! I only used to use margarine for everything since thats all my mother used. I now use only butter. No difference in any taste of anything I make, bake or cook.

I think it depends on what kind of cookie.....but I prefer using butter...
