The best flours I have found are King Arthur.  Most stores carry it.  I also use their dried milk and buttermilk.  Makes an outstanding loaf!!!   I live at high altitude and need to add extra gluten.  Find a good bread machine cookbook for great ideas.  Happy baking.

Yes, I used to make gluten free bread and other items, but the taste is not all that good and the calorie count is high, much more so than items made with wheat.  

 

The bread is always heavy and dense because yeast only works with gluten to make the bread rise. Gluten free bread doesn’t rise. The bread tends to feel like a brick in your stomach.

 

i mostly just avoid goods that use a substitute flour.  I very seldom purchase gluten free processed foods either.

I LOVE homade bread!  I have not ever heard of SKU brand, I have an older West Bend model and it makes the best bread ever. 

 

I use (King Arthur) bread flour, I think it does make a difference in the final product.

 

I used to make hand mixed and kneaded bread - got the recipe from an older man who used to be in the army and worked in the kitchen.  It makes five 4x8 pan loaves which you can bake all at once in the oven and it is the most delicious bread you would ever want to eat.

 

I am fortunate to have a local bakery with awesome and healthy breads, plus a Great Harvest Bread Co near where I live.  It's more expensive, but at this point in my life I am willing to pay it.

 

I'm sure you will enjoy your new bread maker!

Thanx, @brandiwine.  I got a 5lb bag of KA Bread Making Flour today - it was on sale at the grocery store!  Any recommendations on the best yeast to use?

Store bought bread is not bread IMO. We make all our bread, rolls, buns.

Buy More Bread Machine Magic by Linda Rehberg and Lois Conway from Ebay. You can get one there for about $4 free S&H. All the recipes we have used from it have all been really good. It has recipes for 1, 1 1/2 & 2 lb loaves.

There is also a free pdf online of The Bread Lover's Bread Machine Cookbook by Beth Hensperger with 300 recipes you can download.

Either Red Star for bread machines or my favorite is SAF.  You can get that at Amazon or King Arthur.  Happy baking!!

I like homemade bread, too.

 

I have a T-Fal bread machine, back when Chef Emeril was selling them on HSN. The smallest loaf that it makes is a 2 lb. loaf. 

 

When I make a loaf, I will slice it and then freeze it and just take out what we want from it, since there aren't any preservatives in it, and it does go stale really fast for that reason.

 

I have made quick breads in it, too. It's very versatile, as I think many bread machines are now.

@brandiwine @eddyandme ITA with SAF yeast. It's the best & does make a difference IMO.

I just ordered from amazonsmile and the 1lb SAF was the same price as a 4oz jar of bread yeast in the grocery store.  Quite a savings; and,  when ordering a small amount is donated to animal rescue.  So, it's a win (better results), win (cheaper), win (donated a little more)!

YEARS AGO I FOUND A NICE SOFT SANDWICH ROLLS RECIPE ON HERE FOR THE BREAD MACHINE, I LOST IT, I AM HOPING SOMEONE REMEMBERS IT, THEY WERE SO SOFT AND TASTY.
