Like that garbage about ALL nutrition and protein bars being "candy bars". Could one be anymore ignorant of the subject?</em>
Calling me "ignorant" is not going to benefit anyone...and you know that. I've done my homework...and I stand by my comment of Atkins or any bars being "like candy". Those bars are a processed food...just like a candy bar. I'm a big proponent of plant based whole foods to meet my nutritional needs...cheaper & healthier than processed anything.
And to show I've done my homework...I compared the nutritional info for the following:
Atkins Day Break Cranberry Almond Bar:
Calories: 150
P: 10 g
C: 16 g
F: 6 gApple (small), Hemp Hearts (2T) & Spinach (1 cup) : Calories: 212
P: 7g
C: 32g
F: 8gAtkins small, 1.2oz bar is filled w/ palm oil, processed proteins, artificial flavors twice the sodium. My option, apple-hemp-spinach, is clean-burning fuel, portable, healthy & loaded with EFAs, iron & fiber...and more vitamins & minerals than anyone can shake a teeny-tiny bar at....and much, much more filling. Just be more nutritionally aware & do the math. SMH...it's so simple.
That's fine sidsmom, feel free to eat what you wish to eat. DO NOT however tell ME how to eat especially since what you've already tried to tell me and other diabetics to eat would have us in the hospital!
Awesome! Providing the same nutritional %, but due to my cyber name, is not good enough. I never said anything about diabetes in this thread (although some of those responses are providing fodder for my other forums)...it's about Atkins & chemicals many, many people are injesting everyday. I was just providing a whole foods, natural, cheaper alternative....but if you want to purposefully eat chemicals, Godspeed.
Strict low carb follower would not touch a bar with in 10 feet, they call it a frankenfood, they would rather keep it simple with a piece of cheese or a slice of meat as a snack. I agree that just because its made by Atkins, not not healthier than a hershey bar

I cannot keep a slice of meet or cheese in my handbag. The bars, at least for me, are not an everyday thing. I keep one in my bag for those times that I'm out and something keeps me out and unable to get a meal in a reasonable amount of time. I cannot and will not just pop in a fast food place to grab a bite, but I can eat an Adkins bar and know it will not kick my blood sugar up through the roof, it will keep me satisfied and stable.

I do carry nuts, but they will hardly fill the bill for an extended period of time.
Bottom line - we all have choices to make. I like the Adkins bar, they fill the bill for me. The Adkins shake also works well for me. Obviously not what you want so I won't force you to buy them. Deal?
