Article about Paula Deen and new documentary

[ Edited ]

Hi. For those of you who remember Paula Deen, who used to be a very popular vendor here (and other big retailers who handle food) - there's an article in today's Washington Post about a new documentary on her and how some of her language changed her life and company since a 2013 scandal. I can't use the language here because of the rules. I think some of her products here were Smithfield? But anyway, it was interesting.

The name of the film is "Canceled: The Paula Deen Story."

I never bought any of these but they were hugely popular, then suddenly they were gone. I think it was discussed here at the time.

@skatting44 I was struggling to remember her and then I read your comment and I remembered her!  She did cook with a lot of butter.

She can stay canceled.  Don't care for her nor her words.  Won't be watching.  When I worked in a cooking store years ago we would sell her cast iron products. Cheap China made carp. They would arrive at our store already cracked and broken.  She needs to fade away

I read the article in WAPO. After all this time, it doesn't matter to me.

@Thats Me

Yes, PD was a spokesperson for Smithfield on QVC.  I ordered and loved the sausage patties; pretty sure that's the brand McD's sells on their breakfast products.  I would probably still buy these sausage patties if QVC still carried them.

@RedTop   Have you checked your local grocery stores?  Our Shop Rite, Acme and Grocery Outlet all carry Smithfield sausage patties.

I enjoyed her when she first appeared then the longer she was around the louder and more obnoxious she became.

I lost interest in her long before the things about the words came up.  Ate at her restaurant in Savannah before it was a big deal, and it was just a typical Southern meat-and-three joint.  Nothing special.

@Citrine1

My local stores carry the Smithfield brand which I tried before and after buying the precooked/frozen sausage patties from QVC.  The taste is just not the same, so I stopped buying their pork products.  My guess would be lots of things changed when there was a change in ownership.

Yep, and after she made those reprehensible remarks, I was done!
