The dictionary has the word listed as Car*a*mel. Next to it is (kar-mel and kar-e-mel)
Car a mel sounds fancy to me, I usually say car mel.
Enough with how to say it, how about a recipe!!!

Car-a-mel is correct. Carmel is a town in California (and also Putnam County, New York).

Car-a-mel not car-mel. 3 syllables not 2.

Car-mul. I guess it's a regional thing. I'm also an ore-inge vs. Are-inge kinda girl.

I grew up pronouncing it Cah-ra-mell, with a NY accent. When I moved to CA there were certain words my students laughed at, like Are-reg-on, and Nev-ah-da. I picked up a CA accent to save myself grief in the classroom. I now pronounce it car-mul.

Car-mul. My DH says it care-uh-mel
