Apple crisp recipie

Love, love the apple crisp recipie. The one from the ITKWD recipie list calls for 2 1/2 cups of butter and the one from David's cookbook calls for 1 1/2 cups of butter. Has anyone tried it and can tell me which is the correct amount?
