Anyone have experience with Debbie Meyer green boxes?

Wondering if these really work...especially for celery.

I have both the ultra lite and the home collection. The ultra lite wasn't at all good for me, more like glad ware, but the home collection I love. I have some pieces left from when she only made the heavier version. They keeps my veges, fruit, homemade bread and whatever else I put in there good for a long long time. HthSmile

I tried the bags first (purchased @ Whole Foods), then the boxes from HSN. I have had a much better experience with the boxes than the bags. I still have the boxes and use them for fresh fruit and veggies and I really do think that they extend the fridge life of these items. I use them a lot for celery, berries, cut melon. My younger son loves strawberries, for example, and I'll get a big container of them, wash them, put half away, whole, in a green box, and the other half I'll cut up and put in another green box . Both cut AND whole they've lasted an extra few days in the boxes.

Re: Anyone have experience with Debbie Meyer green boxes?

Don't waste your money on the Ultra Lite boxes. I wanted to try the green boxes and wasn't paying attention when I purchase a set on Amazon and ended up with the Ultra Lites. I agree that they're like the disposable Gladware boxes - thin and I don't expect them to last long. We buy large boxes of berries at Costco and sometimes they can start going bad before we can eat them all so I thought we'd try the boxes. They worked well, but the first time I tried one for my blackberries, I was trying to remove the lid and it wasn't pulling off. Then it did, and bent and cracked...the first time I used it. That made me a little mad. I like the idea of the green boxes, and they do keep fresh fruits fresh longer, but I want something more sturdy like a Lock-n-Lock. There is one set on HSN that looks like it might fit the bill...currently $40 and on 4 flex pays of $10.

Here's one for you. Yesterday in the produce dept., getting tomatoes, was the 1st time ever that they put out green bags, vs. just the see through clear ones. Guess they know now about the gasses released in veg's, don't think the bag had little holes in it. Maybe just certain veg's release gases, I really don't know. But green bags, this was new to me at the store. How about them apples? LOL

Thanks JLF. I have so many containers already...I don't want a bunch more. I was looking specifically at the set of two longer ones at HSN. Advertised for bread. I wonder if those are different than the others, sold for fruits and veggies. Maybe I'll experiment and keep the celery in a lock n lock...and my money in my wallet. {#emotions_dlg.laugh}

Don't anyone tell me about wrapping it in aluminum foil. It didn't work.

Re: Anyone have experience with Debbie Meyer green boxes?

qualitygal...there have been green bags in my stores many times. I never thought they might be different from the clear ones. Do you think the color makes a difference? Because otherwise, as far as I can tell, they're the same as the clear ones.
