Re: Anyone else not like cooking in a crockpot?

Love cooking in a crock pot because it's so easy! Right now a roast, potatoes and carrots are cooking. Fool proof - chuck roast, fill the bottom with water, sprinkle some lipton onion soup mix on top of roast and cook. Makes perfect gravy, too.

I would be lost without my crockpot, especially during the winter. Soups and stews always warm me up and very filling with left overs for lunch the next day.

Re: Anyone else not like cooking in a crockpot?

I have a crockpot but can't remember the last time I used it. I used to make pot roast for my mother in it (something I don't care for). I think everything gets overcooked in it. I love to cook and find it relaxing so I don't consider it a chore.

Me too, gray. It's good to hear the opinions of those who aren't fond of crock pot cooking!

If you know how to properly use a crock pot, you can have convenience....and quality. Not to mention great flavor.

Re: Anyone else not like cooking in a crockpot?

Just bought the ingredients for chili in my crockpot. I must use it once a week for soups, stews, chili, pot roasts. Never tried pasta except for pasta e fagoli where it is added at end.

Re: Anyone else not like cooking in a crockpot?

I never trusted them.... My electric fry/roast/bake skillet has always been my go to for

everything when I had my family around. Roasts are so good in it....casseroles whatever and turn it on warm and leave the house.

It always seemed the crock never was hot enough.

I cool the old fashioned way in a big pot for chile, stews etc

Re: Anyone else not like cooking in a crockpot?

On days we are super busy and the weekends are when we use it the most. It's so nice to just throw potatoes, roast and carrots in one with some onion soup and just forget it. That way we don't have to worry about dinner on these busy days. Chile and potatoe soup are also great. Even chicken with just some barbecue sauce. Even made stuffing.in it the other day.

I don't love it--but I do a few soups send chilis that are great in the crock pot.

In my opinion, crock pot cooking rocks! If you are not happy with your slow cooker esults, check out the three slow cooker recipe books by Stephanie O'Dea -- full of interesting, healthy, not labor intensive or cost-prohibitive , and (for a bonus) usually also child friendly recipes. Oh, and did I say gluten friendly? The selections are so creative and unique that you may wind up loving your crock or, if you already love it, loving it even more.
