If you like naturally sweet watermelon, where do you buy it and how do you choose a sweet one?
I just can't find a sweet watermelon. I must be doing something wrong.
TIA

Luck of the draw. Most of the time we get ones that are passably sweet and sometimes really sweet ones. Some years are better than others.

Oh my gosh, I don't think I've ever had a watermelon that wasn't sweet. Sometimes they are sickenly sweet (but I can live with that!).
Now cantelopes, that's a different story.

Florida melons are the best. Before you buy a whole one, check out the cut watermelons usually on ice in the produce section, you don't even have to bend over and put your nose close to the plastic (yes, people do that), you'll be able to smell the sweetness, if they don't "look" good or "smell" good, don't buy one. Peak time for watermelon is the 4th of July, couple weeks to go.
Good Luck.
My first one was wonderful, then I bought a couple from Sam's and was quite disappointed.

I love the yellow watermelon. My uncle in Texas would grow them especially for me. Yum yum

Yes, go by that picture. I just bought a small seedless watermelon yesterday. Will cut it up tomorrow.

As someone else posted it is early in the watermelon season. The picture that @sidsmom posted is helpful. Some people tap on the watermelon.
A seedless watermelon should sound solid. A seeded watermelon should sound hollow.
Heirloom watermelons are usually sweeter also.
Some grocery stores will cut your watermelon in half and overwrap it for you. This should be free of cost and enable you to see the depth of red throughout your watermelon.
Great produce managers will assist you to keep your loyalty to their department.

Lately, I have been purchasing slices and they are sweet and juicy. It's good to see the picture posted on how to tell a really good watermelon. I will have to use that method.

I always tapped for vibration (hallow) whether seedless or seeded. Every since seedles came out - never looked back on the long seeded watermelon.
