Most recipes I've seen are for the 6 qt. IP and call for 1 cup of water when required for that recipe. I have an 8 qt. IP and wondered what the correct amount of water should be added. Called the 800 IP help line and the CS rep said at least 5 or 6 cups of LIQUID has to be in the IP for it to work properly so you don't get the BURN error message. I can understand 5 or 6 cups of liquid if you're making soup or stew, but not to cook a plain vegetable or a cake. If anyone recalls, last week I "tried" making a cake in the IP and because I got 3 Burn errors, I just kept adding water to the pot until the cake was "cooked." Anyone have any suggestions?

I'm a huge fan of pressure cookers and have been for many years. However, I think there are better ways of baking a cake, with less mess, than in a pressure cooker. I'd just stick it in my little convection oven and not have to worry about quanities of water and cleaning a big pot.

Coffee drinker I have read 3 cups. Google 8 qt. reviews and you will get some blogs and videos from people who have the 8 qt.

@Kachina624 I also have used a pressure cooker for years. It wasn't my intention to bake exclusively in the IP. I just wanted to try that feature -- nothing more, nothing less. My traditional appliance will be the oven.for baking.
@tiny 2 Thank you for that suggestion. I check out Google for so many things and not my IP problems/questions. Thanks, again.

@coffee drinker, I was having a hard time deciding between the 3 sizes so I listened to many reviews from people that had them. Some had both. I decided I could do more with the 8 qt.. I hope the burn error does not spoil it.
I will get back home in a few days and hope to get it up and running after that. Please post any other quirks you discover. Hopefully there will not be any.
I was intrigued also by the results cooking squash with harder outer skin in addition to the beans. I find myself avoiding some due to the strength it takes to cut them. The RA is affecting my hand strength. It will be great to be able to have them again.I have never used any sort of pressure cooker so it should be a fun adventure in the kitchen. My mother used a stove top pressure cooker but I was not allowed anywhere near it.

@tiny 2 In the past, I've used an old fashioned pressure cooker with a juggler on the top and never had a problem. The only thing "frightened" by it was the cat, but he got used to it. And as I said, the only time I got that Burn message was when I tried making a cake. Not enough water added which caused the IP to become dry. Makes sense, no?
You mentioned acorn squash--you may want to check allrecipes dot com for a recipe called Instant Pot Acorn Squash Stuffed With Italian Sausage. Avg. Of 4 stars from 101 reviewers.
Edit to correct -- 101 made the recipe and only 2 reviews avg 4 stars. Sorry
