America’s Test Kitchen Cookbook

[ Edited ]

I just received my copy of the latest ATK Cookbook...The Complete Show Cookbook.  It is interesting to read.  But, I also have the Cooks Country TV Show Cookbook (2023).  I prefer it over this new one.

My book arrived with two damaged corners but I am keeping it.  This book is definitely an Encyclopedia ....reference book ...everything A-Z...I don't really need it.

At least I bought it on free shipping day.   Don't drop it on your foot or you might break a toe.  HEAVY!

If you received it, what do you think?

@walker  I watched the presentation of it on the Q, but I didn't order it.  I noticed it's a very large book, and I just don't have the room for it in my kitchen or elsewhere.  I know I wouldn't use it.  I do enjoy that TV show, and I'll check to see if my library has the previous cookbook you mentioned.

I've bought them in the past and received them as gifts. I have to admit, the recipes are just too complicated for me. Maybe it's the way they are written. I don't know. They are great for just reading and learning. But, I'm not going to go through all the steps they suggest to complete a recipe. Didn't get this one, because I have so many.

I am a tester for ATK, and I have learned some things doing the recipes they send me. But they usually cost me more money than I'd like, and I'm not often happy with the results.

Enjoy your reading and cooking!

Re: America’s Test Kitchen Cookbook

I bought that book last year and yes it is very heavy. If I use a recipe I just write it down. Hard to make something with that big awkward book. My wife went through it but she didn't care for it.

@walker   I love the show too but would never buy the book because, as far as I know, whenever I want a recipe they prepare, I can get it online.

I ordered, but mine hasn't yet shipped.  Mine says 'preparing your order'.   I'm looking forward to receiving.

Re: America’s Test Kitchen Cookbook

I ordered it, then cancelled and ordered it from the library. It is sooooo heavy, it is almost impossible to deal with. Can't hold it on your lap and turn the pages. Glad I didn't buy it.  I don't like all the steps involved, nor some of the unusual ingredients. For instance, I wanted the chili recipe. There are 3 of them. All involved too many steps. One even said to make your own chili powder. Not for me.

PS. To the poster who said she got it last year, this was just published for the first time last week.  It is a compilation of 25 YEARS.

Re: America’s Test Kitchen Cookbook

I have an older version of their cookbook. And over the years, I've cooked a few of the recipes.
Most of them require too much prep time and expensive ingredients.

I subscribe to their website, and have found several easy recipes that I make frequently.

@deeva I agree 100 percent with what you said.  I'll add "and too many dishes to wash" to your list!  I also feel like if you have one of these books, you have them all, why buy more?  Seriously would you bother to drag two of them out to flip through?  It would be a workout.

Re: America’s Test Kitchen Cookbook

Got one from the library a few years ago. No doubt they have perfected every recipe, but I'm a much simpler cook. I like those five ingredient cookbooks!
