Just the other day, I was lugging the box of cat litter out of the car, into the house and up the stairs. I was wondering how much longer I'll be able to do that. It's not an option to keep the litter box on my ground floor - there's no place for it. What do other seniors do about such things?

@EatWell If you'd never been in my house and you didn't know me (like here) you'd think, "Wow! I could probably eat off of her floors" (an old-time saying). Because I have some (let's call them strange) (I call them different) habits. Kinda falls under OCD (i.e. hand washing).
But....not true, I am clean but some things I do for a reason. Washing the dishes first is one of them. I explained that the dishes sit in the dishwasher for 5 or more days.
There is no way on this earth I'm going to let any of that uneaten food sit on those dishes for any amount of time. It's just gross.
I even have a Jenn-Air that has all the bells and whistles. "Supposedly" it grinds(?) up any food FIRST that was on the dishes, sanitizes, heats up the water to (some unbelievable temp) AND THEN starts one of two washing cycles. Phew! Makes me tired thinking of it.
I can spot a water mark on anything and everything. You see, I was raised by my Aunt who was so OCD her picture would be next to it.
As hard as I fight it (I do a really good job, again, I have papers everywhere) my OCD still manages to wiggle through and rare it's head...

Mopping the floor. Hate it, and I have all the right tools to do the job.
Adding: total clean of the fridge. I love having it stocked neatly in pretty containers, I love to cook (in fact, I love doing the grocery shopping), but I despise tearing the fridge down to clean.

@house_cat Yes! That's pretty much what I say. It would be easier to support that though if I wasn't overweight. Ha! Obviously, it's not working for me.
Actually, I come from a very long line of women who've lived to be at least 100 years old (my mother was in her 80's when she died but it was because she smoked like a chimney).
My late husband was an exercise fanatic like you wouldn't believe. He used to say he was worried about me because I didn't exercise. I used to say, "Well, you know my family's history....'nough said"!
He dropped dead in my arms at the age of 58. Life is interesting. When your time comes, you'd better have done it, seen it, eaten it.

I'm lucky, @house_cat , that my kitchen access is very near the garage, on the side I park. I have one step-up and one half step to negotiate. Pantry's right there. I love this house for many reasons, but this is definitely one.
One of these days I may need to install a stair lift to get to the second story (for another day) but our living level is pretty much at grade. Love that.

You're right. If we stay here, we'll stay in this house. I love most everything about it. Ranch style homes in this area are very rare, because of the property values. However, there's no comparison to what we can get for the money in many other places - which excludes going back to Long Island - just as bad. I have no desire to do that, anyway. We're thinking of the mid-Atlantic states like North or South Carolina. We'll have to see what the future holds.

@godi I'm with you on a daily coffee pot clean up. I fixed that problem, I now make a double strong pot once a week and store in Lock & Lock tumblers with spouts. Every morning I add water to the concentrate and microwave in safe glass large measuring cups. Easy! and no difference in taste, at least to me

I don't mind grocery shopping. I usually go to the store in town, a small store where everyone's friendly and chitchats so it's sort of a social thing.
Putting groceries isn't bad either. My furbaby loves to check out the purchases and it's kinda cute watching his reactions, then giving him a few "samples" of our stash.
I do dislike emptying the dishwasher 'cause there's always some Lock 'n Lock in there which is never, ever totally dry, so I have to put it on the counter to dry which aggrevates me!
Dusting - hate it as it seems like it never ends!!!
But, what I hate most is cleaning the bathroom! I no sooner gets it shiny and bright and it's a mess. My black and white bathroom is immediately covered with Eddy's dog hair. Don't know how it gets there - well, he does assist me while cleaning - but, one minute it's gone, the next it's reappeared! I've given up and warn guests to expect little black hairs everywhere.
And, the most futile job, imho, is laundry. It's never done: you get everything cleaned and put away, and immediately, there's more!
Thanks, it's been nice to vent!
