Moms recipe is the same one her mother always made, which requires beating the fudge for about 10 minutes before pouring into a buttered dish or platter.  My guess is it's the only fudge my grandmother ever made.

@RedTop

Did she beat the fudge with a spoon or a rotary mixer please?

Yep, that's the recipe Mom has made for as long as I remember.

SO vey glad if I did help.  Only time will tell.  Since you don't have her "eye", you'll need a candy thermometer.

We've made that fudge so many times we don't use a candy thermometer!  In fact I've never had one.

My mother made Floating Island (meringue islands on a runny custard base).  Haven't had it in fifty years but the recipe is readily available ( so you never know...).

 Not a big dessert lover, but anytime they have creme brulee in a restaurant, I indulge (unless it is chocolate, I dislike chocolate).

@ECBG I would so love to have one of my moms homemade coconut cakes.  She made the cake from scratch and would crack the "real coconuts" for that fresh coconut that was like no other.  She carried this recipe to heaven with her in 2016......
