Re: 60 dollars for 6 TeeVee dinners?!?!??!?

One of our local grocers sells fresh packets of dinners similar to what QVC is selling, and the price is close to $10 for each packet. DH and I are retired and eat less than we used to, so we would most likely split a packet and have that along with a salad, or rolls, or another veggie. Personally I'd rather buy it locally than ordering online, but the idea is still the same. I have no problem with the price. And I sure don't look at it as a "TeeVee" dinner. There's little preparation for me, it's convenient because everything is included in the packet, and it's a reasonable price. I'd spend more than that ordering a pizza, going for fast food, and I'd definitely spend more time than I want to some days figuring out what to cook!

In my case this would not be an option.  I am not a good cook but I  mangage to put things together that work for the two of us.  I would never spend that much.

Alright already!!!! Mea Culpa!!!!

I forgot QVC is the channel that now sells 150.00 hams and 200.00 PieCaken....and 75.00 dollar meatballs....

So please be easy on me!!!!

ANd YES I know "cheap" is not "better".

But I know when I'm being played too

Soooo....today I plan to invent and market a two-cookie package that can be used for dessert after a 10.00 pouch dinner....and I will sell it for 15.00 a packet. You can save money and time as opposed to baking your own cookies, or opening your own bag of Oreos!!!!

And..sorry- but fyi...6 shrimp and two asparagus can be steamed or cooked in the SAME TIME It takes to cook a pouch in boiling water, and will taste better than ANYthING that comes out of a microwave!!!! And YOU know what's in it. Add 3 cents worth of rice and you're set!

You went to the store anyway this week....right?

And....You can use the 30.00 dollar rubber bands to "seal" your packages of shrimp and rice and asparagus for other meals another day!

WE BUY IT BECAUSE WE WANT IT.  WE DON'T BUY IT BECAUSE IT IS CHEAP OR IT MAKES SENSE.  WE DON'T CARE WHAT IT COSTS.

You probably avoid most retail stores like the plague don't you if this bothers you.  And you probably should stay away from the mile of cars in your town too.   Do you know what you can spend on an SUV with the bells and whistles when a bicycle would do?  Woman Wink

I'm the girl who said to the insurance salesman: Yes, I know I have very expensive insurance.  No, I don't care if yours if cheaper.  Yes, I understand the coverage is the same.  Why do I want to keep mine?  Because I want to pay more for my coverage.

He never called me again for some reason. . . Price and value and what we buy never makes sense.  Well, except to one of our other posters who constantly reminds all of how foolish we are with our money. . . It's all nonsense.   Woman LOL

DH and I eat out probably once or twice  a week, and the price can vary per person from around $10 to $30....then there is gas to get to the restaurant, tip for the server, tax on the food.

How much, exactly, is too much to pay for food that comes with  less travel time and more convenience than I just described above?

If I have to shop for the ingredients, put them together,  fire up my gas cooktop, heat up the big oven, and  then use gallons of water  plus detergent to rinse and wash the dishes and pots and pans..........WHO REALLY HAS CALCULATED THE PRICE DIFFERENTIAL????

Re: 60 dollars for 6 TeeVee dinners?!?!??!?

Sometimes my time is at a bigger premium than my money. These are a better value and more convenient than take out.

This weekend I forgot a key ingredient for one of the dinners I have planned for this week. I wasted my lunch running to the supermarket for it, spent $30 when I only needed 2 things, and was totally aggravated in the process. This doesn’t happen when I use those dinner services.

There’s a price for my sanity and for a relaxing family meal at the end of the day. It’s not that I can’t plan, shop, and cook. I choose to spend my time differently.
