I have never received an "as is" item that I had to send back. However, I did recieve a "new" item (a Susan Graver top) that reeked of smoke. So you just always have to check your item carefully.

In November I purchased an "as is" prelit tree that had been a TSV.  The savings were tremendous.  However we noticed that the top of the tree was rather flat and did not come to a peak like a tree should.  I've always wanted to use a teddy bear in a Christmas sweater as a topper, but it never looked right.  Well, with the flat top, the bear sat up there perfectly so I kept the tree.
