question about ring sizing

Hello and Seasons Greetings to everyone!

I just received the asscher cut diamonique ring. It is beautiful and I love it but unlike my one other size 6 Ripka ring, this one is a little too big. In this ring a 5 1/2 would be just right but it does not come in half sizes. A 5 will probably not go over my knuckle. I took it to one jeweler who said he could not size it but wouldn't say why. Have any of you had one of these down sized? I know they can't make a huge change when sizing but it seems like a half a size would be ok. There is a small smooth polished section on the back of the band and I thought that meant it could be sized. I don't know if I should hunt down a jeweler that is willing to size it or if I should just send it back . Any suggestions? thanks and have a wonderful holiday{#emotions_dlg.rolleyes}
