question about oxidized silver

Rght now on the Q there is a piece of silver jewelry that I adore, but would love even more if it wasn't oxidized. Is there any way I could remove the oxidation?

Re: question about oxidized silver

Spoiler
Often with oxidized pieces they say not to put into silver cleaning solution as it removes the oxidation. If the piece doesn't have glued stones or stones that could be ruined. I think you could try dipping in jewelry cleaner liquid.

I have no idea what happened here! I simply stated that liquid jewelry cleaner can remove oxidation. You have to protect any stones so be cautious.

Were you looking at the Roman glass cuff, hennypenny? It's gorgeous. I wouldn't try removing any oxidation unless you can protect the stone.

Re: question about oxidized silver

yes, that is one of my favorites--But I guess I wouldn't try to remove the oxidation becasue of the stone.  For some reason I am not a fan of the oxidation. I realize that it makes the design stand out and enhances many pieces, but for me I am happier with the solid silver look.

I might try soaking a piece that I already have to see if it works.

Antoinella does a great job of presenting the jewelry.

Re: question about oxidized silver

The trouble with adding or removing oxidation is that you have little control over the process so the results can be very uneven. You risk ruining the piece.

Thank you K. I wasn't sure that it was even possible to remove chemically oxidized places from the jewelry. I would hate to ruin anything.

You can control the removal by using a paste toothpaste and toothbrush, and avoid the stones.

Re: question about oxidized silver

I use toothpaste and some cotton. I just took some oxidation off a pair of Or Paz earrings I bought recently:

J321107  Sterling Silver Hammered Elongated Earrings by Or Paz

They arrived with a bit too much oxidation and did not shine. I just rubbed hard on the areas I wanted to remove the oxidation and it came off. Now, they are nice and shiny. However, I once had a silver watch that was much more difficult to remove the oxidation because they had used a very thick paste.

Re: question about oxidized silver

Oooo, I might give that a try. I will try it on a piece I already have. If it works I might buy a couple of pieces that I saw today. I am a gold person, but love silver if it is very shiny.
