leather necklace kinked

[ Edited ]

Wonder if my QVC friends have help on this.  I have 2 leather multi-strand Carolyn Pollack necklaces that I love.  I had them in a jewlery safekeeper for  a few years and just realized they are bent a little and look funny on the neck.  I didn't realize this could happen with a leather necklace.  Any ideas or tricks for how to straighten out the necklaces?  I have rubbed them for a bit, but that doesn't help.

Just a thought. Maybe you can steam iron it with as towel over the necklace.

Adding to my post, leather may bleed so you may want to use a dry iron and also use an old towel that you aren't using anymore in case it does bleed.

Dampen the cord (don't soak it) with water and then work the cord through your fingers until it straightens out. Do not use heat on leather b/c that can make it worse by shrinking it into an abnormal shape.

It's a good idea to store leather cords flat, without any sharp bends or lay it completely straight and unclasped if you have the room to do that or just hang them straight (unclasped) on a hanger.

If @SilleeMee  's suggestion doesn't completely solve the problem, put something with a little weight on the toggle and hand the cord from a doorknob.

Thanks to all three of you for your advice.  I do appreciate your taking the time to answer.  I'll try what you suggested.  Hopefully something will work, as the 2 were multi-cord necklaces, favorites of mine from C. Pollack.

If anyone else out there has any other suggestions for straigtening out a leather necklace, it would be good to hear.
