I don't wear  fashion jewelry and the few fashion pieces that I still have, I bought years ago and they cost a bit of money.  I have some JR pieces.  Jewelry is very personal and I know from myself that just because I like something on someone else and compliment them, that doesn't mean that I want that particular piece.  I do give jewelry as gifts but only to women I am very close to and I buy pieces that fit their style and tastes.

My friends don't wear much jewelry or make up either.  My only female heir is my daughter and she is very conservative, gold studs, one ring, etc.  So I'm gradually feeding her pieces to sell on Ebay, since she will inherit it all anyway.  But I confess its like pulling teeth.  these are my babies.

When someone complements my jewelry, I  simply said thank you. I but If that person like it a lot, I usually try to buy the same design.
