What's the silliest piece of jewelry you ever bought?

We all have them: things in our jewelry box we deeply regret. If you're like me you have a lot of them. I was trying to determine which piece of over-priced costume jewelry I most regret having wasted good money on and I think I've determined a winner. A GIANT "Heart of the Ocean" necklace with GIANT matching earrings, both sparkling with GIANT Swarovski crystals and GIANT rhinestones. You remember the heart-shaped sapphire necklace of the character Rose in the movie "Titanic"? A flood of lookalike necklaces hit the market at the peak of the movie's popularity. The set I bought is so big it is too heavy to wear. The necklace and earrings are so big and flashy a drag queen would be embarrassed to wear them. I kid not.

What is your jewelry box's biggest regret and embarrassment?

Re: What's the silliest piece of jewelry you ever bought?

Years ago I traveled to Venice Italy, and every single store showed cameos. I HAD TO HAVE ONE, and did indeed find one.  I have never worn it, not my style I guess.

Funny thing is, I went back to Venice about 20 years later, and did not see any cameos.

A couple of Jay King pieces, wonder what was I thinking and then why didn't I send them back.  I have a couple other of his pieces that I like and wear often too.

@AuntMame

Chuckling at the giant Heart of the Ocean necklace as I bought one too. I ended up putting it on a porcelain doll -- remember when shopping channels sold them?

I just donated some House of Ivana crystal spider pins to a thrift store that benefits a charity and what was I thinking in the first place as I don't like spiders and never wore them.

Re: What's the silliest piece of jewelry you ever bought?

When JRT was having one of her Disney shows I bought a pair of stud earring that were suppose to represent Mickey Mouse.   They looked so cute on the show and when I received them I still thought they were nice.   Fast forward many years and I still haven't taken them out of the box.

I look at them now and they look like something a young girl would wear.    I ask myself what was I thinking at the time.

Re: What's the silliest piece of jewelry you ever bought?

After 30 plus years of collecting jewelry, I have few "what was I thinking" pieces.  Several years ago, I bought a huge turquoise pendant.  It's nice, a slab of turq.  The problme was that it was set in stainless steel.  Which was why the price was so low.  Between the setting and the chain, it is heavy!!!  To heavy to wear and the pendant cannot be removed from the chain.  It's like a heavy paper weight around my neck....lol   I don't wear much yellow gold, I bought a 1ct diamond cluster ring in yellow gold over sterling for $79.  I should have known better.  The diamonds look like rock salt.  Pure junk.  There are more...boy there are more...lol

I must have been drunk (JUST kidding!) but ages ago I actually bought a piece of Kirk's Folly something-or-other, don't recall what it was. I got it, looked at it, threw it in a drawer and years later tossed it!

Re: What's the silliest piece of jewelry you ever bought?

My silly purchase was not that long ago. I did a lot of "bulk" buying from JTV (I usually purchase Christmas gifts for my team there, as well as little prizes for hitting productivity, that kind of stuff) and in the middle of that I purchased for myself a very inexpensive Bella Luce green stone eternity band for a thumb ring. Somehow I missed opening the purchase for me until past the return period. When I finally got around to taking it out of the box and put it on all I could do was laugh. The ring was way too big for a thumb ring. It made my short stubby thumb look like it was sporting this bright green tutu.

Pretty sure that was the review I left on their website too.

Too  many to mention.  I have sold off over half of my JEWELRY MISTAKES   and am putting together another bunch of pieces to sell off now including my silver.   Last bunch I sold I made $15,000 on that haul... this one will not be that high, but, it should fetch a pretty dollar.

For me it was 2 Honora rings in bronze. These are huge honker MOP, one white and one pink, they are doublets. Well the problem is that after wearing 2-3 times they have tarnished horribly.

Talk about "cash in the trash."
