Re: What Shape Was Your Engagement Ring?

It is a round. It is also not a diamond--it is a sapphire--I always preferred them. My birthday is in September, too.

The one I got engaged with was a marquise.  He didn't have much money and I didn't care.  Three years later, graduated from college, in our careers with a new house, he bought me a pear shaped diamond which I loved even more.

Years when I worked in fine jewelry, the old round 1-2 1/2 karat diamonds were so very, very beautiful!

@ECBG , you must be referring to Old Mine cut diamonds. They were cut by hand and a lot of them are quite beautiful. If you loupe them, they have a small hole in the center as the culet is open.

I have a round diamond in my engagement ring. My mom left me her 2 carat engagement ring which had an Old Mine cut stone. Sadly, when I had it sized the jeweler claimed he lost it. It was insured but the sentimental value was there.

Round engagement solitaire in yellow gold. For our 5th anniversary my husband added 2 smaller round diamonds, one on each side of the solitaire. For our 10th anniversary a band with small round diamonds on the top was added. All 3 pieces are soldered together so it's one ring I wear next to my plain gold wedding band.

It was round.  I upgraded twice in 38 years and it was always round cut.  However, my dream engagement ring has always been a 2 ct pear cut with baguettes.

Re: What Shape Was Your Engagement Ring?

@ECBG   Mine is an oval stone. When DH gave it to me, it had baguettes on the sides. Many years later, I redesigned the ring with trilions to replace the baguettes. It looks like Amy Stran's ring and I purchased that one as a perfect match. Mine is now kept in in safety deposit box.

My wedding band is an eternity band. That's what I wear every day.

@Shanus

When I worked in Belks fine jewelry and the "new" chocolate diamond engagement became available, we bought it as a right hand ring.

Now, I am developing arthritis plus high profile rings often get damaged at work.

I am having the choc dia resized and found the wedding ring that fits around it.

That is the set I will be wearing.

I don't want to chance breaking a prong and losing my diamond, and I don't want to cut into my yellow gold band.

Mine is a round with bagettes (sp?) on both sides set in platinum.  I love it and still admire it all the time.  However, I do think the emerald cut is the most gorgeous of all!!!!
