Was Scott's trip to Italy for inspiration tax deductible?

I've always wondered about all these trips designers take.

I'd be willing to bet it was very deductible.  Research, you know.

Yep, from what I understand, they're 100% deductible, except for international flights and trips, where you're required to spend, no less than, 25% of your time attending to business issues.

Gives the traveler a lot of free time, though, doesn't it. Of course, transportation is only a small part of the deductibles. There's hotels, meals, pricy excursions with business buddies, even laundry, etc.

We'll make up the difference with the taxes for them :-(. Let the good time's roll.

I would think that it is a legitimate business expense.  Some businesses have to go to horrible places.

@depglass

Not sure who Scott is, but why do you care about his taxes?

Designers travel all over the world, not only to create or further build on alliances and business partners, but also for inspiration.

Absolutely nothing unusual about that, IMO.

@depglass   Most likely lots of it would meet the legal requirements.

I have no idea how he traveled, where he stayed, for how long, or who went with him but whatever it cost, whatever he saved in taxes would have to be spread out over the many thousands of pieces of jewelry he sells in a year.

Did he fly in his own private plane?  Or with a dozen other people?  Stay for several weeks?  What kind of bill are you imagining?

Am I the only one here who has no idea who "Scott" is?

@Tinkrbl44 They're referring to Scott Grimes of JAI jewelry.  The collection has been featured over the past few days in various shows and he said he recently went to Italy.

He's an employee of John Hardy so he's not going to be paying personally for the trip anyway.

I used to do that when we would travel and stay at hotels that had that ol' cheap stuff. USA not cheap places either
