Yes!  I was at jeweler for repair and brought my Imperial Gold wheat bracelet for a "casual" appraisal.  They looked in catalog for similar appearance and gram weight (12 grams) and estimated $2,000 +/-.  I paid less than $300 in the 90's for that bracelet!

I don't intend to sell it, but had heard that prices were sky high and was curious.

I've got one like that, too. Yeah, we may all be sitting on a gold mine.

For a dealer, scrapping gold directly at the smelters a gram today of 14K gold is about $44.  That's on a good day when extra alloy isn't found in the scrap which happens often.

These are dealer rates, regular customers would receive less.

If anyone wants a fair shake best to talk to a trusted dealer and hopefully they can steer you in the right direction.

Re: WOW ! gold is climbing

I have seen this and I have several solid gold rope chains, 24" and 18" that I paid maybe 250$ to 350$ in the 1990's.  Gram weight I think is  14 for the 24" and 11 or 12 for the 18". A Friend of mine from work went to Hawaii and she would sweep the jewelry stands at what was called a "swap meet."  She was a jewelry expert so what she brought back at our request was genuine.  I know that these pieces are worth between 3,000$ and 4,000$, if not more.  However, because I could never afford them again, I will hold onto them.  Maybe I should start wearing them again!
