WHAT'S YOUR TASTE IN PEARLS?

I have always loved pearls and have a nice collection of them in white and some colors!  But my favorite color is still the classic white!  As far as the various shapes of pearls I prefer the round and the baroque shape!   My least favorite are the keshi and the ringed pearls....just too organic for my taste!

I can't think of any pearls I don't like.  I don't discriminate re pearls.  They are all wonderful.

I have necklace and earrings that I got from my parents for my 18th birthday (they need to be restrung).  I have a similar set that belonged to my late godmother ... and several strands of those those little crinkled pearls (gifts).

I ruined a very nice pearl ring ... I fell and sprained my hand and cracked the ring!  I have a couple of Honora bracelets I bought from QVC ... and I think there are one or two rings in the box.

I have two birthstones - Pearl and Alexandrite.

Hate Pearls but love Alexandrites.  However, I did aquire a black pearl on one of my many trips to Tahiti years ago.  It's still in the box it came in.

I wear a pinkie ring.  An Alexandrite sits in the middle of my initials.

My mother gave her collection of Pearl necklaces to my daughter who by the way shares the same birthday month as myself.  I didn't want them.

I have always love pearls, from the time I got my first strand when I graduated from h.s.  I have a lovely collection.  I'm traditionalist; I don't like wild colors in my pearls.  I gravitate toward white, candlelight, peacock.  The natural colors.  I have the basics, everything you can imagine, I have.  The last few years, I have been buying larger pearls in more fashion foward settings from Jtv.  That's now my go-to place for pearls.

I am pearl crazy.  Tahitian's , White and golden south sea. Akoya,  Sea of Cortez rainbow lipped, freshwater, nucleated and tissue.  There are so many more out there to choose from, even wild pearls from the giant clam... See pix.giant clam.jpg

Ive never cared for pearls and have just a few pieces that have pearls set into them..  Don't own a string of pearls.   As a June baby, it always made me mad that everyone else got a pretty colored stone and I was stuck with blah pearls.   @Mz iMac@  Who can afford an alexandrite big enough to See?

Re: WHAT'S YOUR TASTE IN PEARLS?

I LOVE, LOVE, LOVE pearls.  I love them all!!!  But since you asked what my favorites are that would be round, white, and as large as I can get.  But I have big pearls, small pearls, round pearls, and baroque pearls.  They all have their place in my jewelry box.  I never met a pearl I didn't like (or want to own.)  When it comes to pearls, I get GREEDY.  ;-)

I've been on a Tahitian binge lately.  Next year the Tahitian government will drop their tight restrictions on export and not require that sub standard pearls be destroyed.  Now, I'm not naive enough to think they weren't getting out anyway to some extent.  But now they are OK to export.  I think that will put the clamps on my Tahitian purchasing for a while.  At least my ebay and etsy purchasing will be dampened.  The major retailers (particularly the pearl online retailers that I think have more pearl knowledge than the average jeweler) will still have quality pearls.  But I also think this will drive the price of Tahitians up.  I guess we will have to wait and see what happens, but it will definetly curtail my Tahitian purchasing until I see what happens!!

I have Mikimotos and it's hard to compete with that.

I have a strand of Mikimoto pearls too.  I love them and every time I wear them I fall in love all over again!
