This beautiful Pink Diamond was recently auctioned off in Hong Kong for 50,000,000. Sotheby's HK presented the 11.34 Carat Pink Stone which is flanked by White Diamonds on either side set a world record for the price it fetched.
How many of you think this color is treated? I would like to think that someone would pay this amount for fine natural pink diamond, however I've never seen such a vivid color pink in a Diamond such as this.

@gertrudecloset It does appear a little too pink and sparkly, so much so it looks phony. The ones I've seen before were rather pale. I'd be suspiciously cautious if I was buying this diamond.

Ah ha! I agree @Kachina624
Yes, like it is treated. Many colored diamonds are treated, but I wouldn't spend that kind of money on a treated stone. Seems to me it should be au naturale for that price. LOL.

The GIA certified it as a natural vivd pink diamond, type 2A which means it's chemically the purist of diamond material.

@SilleeMee Thanks for the info. A treated diamond would be considered "natural" as well. Natural simply means it came from mother earth and is not synthetic or lab grown. I'm looking at other diamonds of the caliber and not none of them have this hot pink look.
I would love to think it has no treatment and was created by mother earth for the kind of money it was sold for. I've seen beautiful pink diamonds but this one of course is not your average pink diamond. It's gorgeous but makes me wonder about treatment to enhance color. Most colored diamonds on the market undergo some sort of treatment to enhance the color of fancy diamonds. Only the uber wealthy can afford the au naturale.

The GIA report stated it was natural color, unmodified. @gertrudecloset
That rock was mined from Tanzania. It's so gorgeous. Makes my mouth water.

Sotheby's has a reputation to uphold. Seems they would have to double authenticate this diamond is of natural color for it to draw such an auction bid.
It sure does appear color enhanced, which would decrease the value. But, if it isn't, it is perhaps one of its kind, making it extraordinary.

Thanks. Now that term "unmodified tells it all @SilleeMee ." No enhancement, no treatment like irradiation, and heat treatment and so on.

That's probably why it fetched the price....a stellar beauty and unusually vivid stone for a pink diamond.

I can agree with what you state too @BlueFinch . I guess the color of this particular stone is throwing me for a loop as it so saturated in color.
Here are some other pinks I'm accustomed to seeing (not so vivid):
18.96 carat

This 18.6-carat pink fancy diamond-type IIA was mined in South Africa in 1918. The mine was owned by the same family that ran De Beers. The Pink Legacy was later purchased by Harry Winston for $50 million in 2018, at Christie’s auction house in Geneva.
This auction made The Pink Legacy the world record holder for the most expensive pink diamond ever auctioned ($2.6million/carat). It is a cut-cornered rectangular-cut diamond that is mounted on top of a platinum ring.
