dimple: in answer to your question about 24mm vs 27mm... both are very small. An inch is 25mm. But it's not just the difference in the measurement across the dial (diameter), it's the surface area as well. It's all that geometry, but a few mm difference in diameter adds a lot fo difference in surface area. My suggestion would be to take a penny, dime, nickle, and quarter and measure them with a mm ruler (if you have one). Then you will be better able to visualize the difference. The 3mm difference is about 1/8 inch. Hope this helps.
Another factor is the width of the bracelet. A wider bracelet gives the watch a bigger presence. This can make a very big difference. As can the shape of the case... but I think you are looking at round cases, so you are comparing the same shape.
