Soon as I read this I thought of the 'Songbird' knew she would flip.

I do like 18K for necklaces and earrings. I do not buy it for rings and bracelets because I want them to be sturdier than 18K is.

I have an 18k gold band that belonged to my great grandmother. It is more yellow than 14k but has never tarnished.

I wince when I see 10K. Its JTV's idea of gold. And its barely gold. It's better then Sterling in the sense of the reaction of silver and tendency to tarnish. That's why if I can't get 18K, I turn to UltraFine. 18K is always part of fine jewelry. That and platinum are soul mates of diamonds.

I prefer 18K for white gold as opposed to 14K.
I do have a 14K white gold watch that I'm sure people mistake for stainless steel or silvertone or whatever they'd use for costume jewelry. I love it. Have taken it twice to 2 different jewelers to have the battery changed and both have offered to buy it from me.

I have an 18kt gold chain with a medallion, a ring and hoop earrings. I have never had a problem with it. I have the pieces since I was young. In my country 18kt gold is the standard.

I think 18k yellow gold is pretty but diamonds need white gold in the prongs. I've seen 2 separate 18k yellow gold diamond rings and I don't care for the look. It doesn't enhance the look of the diamonds.

Sorry for going a little OT but what's the best way to clean 14K or 18K yellow gold that has tarnished?

Only the UK has the lowest 9K, a symbol of class distinction there. The working class would buy that. The other standard is 18K. They don't have 14K. Most countries in the world have at least 18K. The standard in the middle east is 21/22K. Asia of course is pure gold. Gold is dense the higher the amount of gold. 24K falls into itself. Anything made of pure gold is solid through and through. Gold was one of the first "heavy metal" ever created. So the gold you see was always in the beginning of star formation. Since then gold has spread out in our universe. Gold is like platinum. It stays the same. It doesn't react to anything.

I'm the same way. 14K is just ot enough gold for me. Silver is 1000% better then 10K.
