Posting this question to the jewelry forum as you ladies are on top of your gems.  Has anyone mentioned what Grade the tanzanite is in the TSV ring?  Gem Day caught me by surprise today and I missed all of the shows so far.  Obviously it is not AAA but I was wondering if anyone has heard this information or could make an educated guess.  I have already asked Customer Service and they do not know.

You couldn't guess the grade unless you looked through a jewelry loop.  While it appears beautiful, I think the price tag is high for what you are getting.   I have a 4 ct I was fortunate enough to buy while in Bermuda a few years ago.   I paid less than this price.  My husband checked the stone through a loop to be sure it was good quality.  It is also set in White gold.   If you have the opportunity to travel, you get better deals on jewelry in the Carribean.

@chvall99  On the Affinity Diamond shows, if they remember, they do give the grade of the stones. I haven’t heard anyone give a grade to gem stones in all the years I’ve watched Q. I think most stones are overpriced for their grade/clarity.

Good quality Tanzanites have been gone for years.  In recent years, they have been digging deeper and deeper in Block D mine and coming up with poorer and poorer stones.  Lately they've been pushing Green Tanzanites, Not a big market, but what can they do?  Tanzanites are  also very soft stone.  Softer then emeralds.    If you buy one, try for a pendant instead of a ring.  Now the Tanzania government is getting in the act.  Taking over the mine.  Trying to squeeze the last few pennies.  Most of the stones you see today (including QVC) are from years ago.  Wholesales and private collectors hold on them for years.  Gems always go up in value.

Thank you all I really learn so much from your responses.  I did go on Jeff M's QVC facebook page and saw the video on grades of tanzanite that he had there

https://www.facebook.com/JeffMoseleyQVC/videos/157016014884708/

He did say on air that this was the best tanzanite he had ever seen in his career and by inference that would mean his AAA+ grouping.  Hmmm

@chvall99 I have my GIA and trained in diamonds and colored stones. At GIA there is no such thing as grading a tanzanite as a,aa or triple A. The grading is solely at the discretion of the retailor.

Tanzanites are a deep brownish color before heat treatment. So you are basically purchasing a heat treated stone. Buyer beware regarding grading...

Tanzanites are so expensive. Years ago I had to sell my ring to make some money, and figured I'd replace it later. Now they cost so much. I managed to find a cheaper ring (not as nice stones) but my older one was so gorgeous. Makes me sad. I didn't know why they had gone up in price, and now I know. Thanks for the heads up.

Actually I asked Jeff on FB and he responded immediately, so nice of him! Here is his response.

Jeff Moseley for QVC AAAA grade, best of the best. Keep in mind tanzanite and all other colored gems do not have an “official” grading scale however the colored stones industry grading scale amongst the trade is A, AA, AAA and with this collection AAAA. 😃

So just sayin...I think I am in on this one.  I can always return it- like that will ever happen.  I know I can shop elsewhere too but the point is that I probalby won't .  My birthday is next month, I lost 20 pounds and I am expecting a bonus.  Well ladies have i come up with enough justifications Smiley Wink

I know I will enjoy it as I do all of my jewelry. It is my passion and brightens my day.  Thanks for the advice about the softness of the stone. I will baby this one.

I think it is a beautiful ring...  I would get it and take it to be appraised right away.  It might cost you a small amount but it will be worth it.

I have a three carat tanzanite pendant that we got in Hawaii 15 years ago.  It is the deep color tanzanite.

I also have earrings that we bougjht in Hawaii twwo years after the necklace purchase.

I always wanted a ring and was told by my jeweler here that they make a bad choice for a ring because they are so soft.  I am hard on my rings so I deferred

I am thinking about this one

Great advice about the appraisal...I have 30 days to get it done and you are right it is well worth the fee when making a big online purchase.  I live in the boonies so you never see really fine jewelry even in the private stores around here.  Just no market for it.  Thank you again all!
