Hi all...just wanted to give you an update after my surgery. I went in Friday Jan 7 and my surgery was at 11am. They removed a 24 lb mass from my abdomen and my incision is 32 inches around. The surgery went well and was over at 5pm. I stayed in the recovery room until about 10pm, then they sent me to a room. The insurance had only approved a 23 hour stay so at about 5am they removed the catheter and told me I had 5 hours to walk and peee. I was not feeling well but the insisted I get up. 2 nurses tried to help me and moved me the wrong way and all of a sudden I heard this huge splat and felt dizzy. My incision open up and I was loosing tons of blood.a surgeon rushed in and tried to put me back together with tape and ice packs...but my blood pressure drooped to 5824. They gave me 2 blood transfusions. Sunday night, I woke up at about 9pm in the hospital and felt blood. The nurse told me it was ok,to take a pain pill and go back to sleep, which I did. At 2am, I woke up covered in blood, and screamed for the nurse and surgical PA on call, They took one look at me and called a surgeon in to reopen me,clean out the area and restitch me. since I lost so much blood, I spent another week in the hospital getting transfusions.My blood count was 12 when I went in and is now 7.1. Saturday I went to a rehab to get monitored for a few days,and came home tonight. The initial incision is healing,but I still have 2 drains in, and am covered in awful painful tape blisters. The rehab center said they had never seen anything like it.I am very week and will have to take iron supplements for a year. It was touch and go for a while...but I am so glad to be home.
