Suggestion to long-term QVC shoppers

Hi!  Back in the day, when QVC sold 14K gold jewelry frequently, I purchased a few pieces over the years.  I recently had some jewelry appraised for insurance and was surprised (to say the least) at their current value.  For example, I purchased a peridot tennis bracelet back in 1998 for $168 (not including shipping and tax) that is now valued at $1600, basically 10X the orignal price.  It may be worth considering doing this to ensure your jewelry is insured at its current value.  Take care!

Unfortunately, what it is appraised for (which is subjective) is not what you could sell it for.  I have a lot of jewelry. If and when I ever get the time, if I think I can make some decent money on selling my jewelry, I would be all for it.

The appraised value is for insurance purposes only.  There is no way the item could be sold for anywhere near its appraised value.

@heart2shop2 Good suggestion!

I don't believe your intention was for selling purposes but instead if your item was lost, stolen or damaged.

My jeweler just suggested that I bring in my jewelry for an updated apraisal, I will do so after the holidays. I like to keep it up to date.

@kaydee50 Solid gold or even solid sterling now is worth a lot--usually more than you paid.  Gemstones, not so much, even diamonds.

Getting jewelry appraised every so often ensures that the jeweler doing the appraisal and your insurance company make money.

If it sits in a safe or bank box and you no longer use the jewelry, why not pass it on to someone important to you ?  You can enjoy seeing them wear it !

Or take advantage of the high price of gold, sell pieces and donate to improve the quality of life for those suffering.  There is a village in Peru, high above the tree line that is home to many impoverished young and elderly women.  Grass doesn't grow that high up so crops and animals are not the solution.  Their diet is filled with starchy foodstuffs.  Several of my remaining pieces help feed them.  ( Too many sad stories abound there: incest, birth defects, malnutrition, etc. )

As lifestyle changes and age brings its problems, I am happy I had time to enjoy the beauty of the pieces but happy to provide help.

@heart2shop2

Was it this one? This was the July 7, 1998 Today's Special Value and the 6¾" was $168.

Yes, it was.  I had received a promotion at work and decided to treat myself.

Re: Suggestion to long-term QVC shoppers

I have Judith Ripka rings that have gone up in value.  But the ones I own are 14k or solid silver. The gold has gone up. Even on eBay my rings are 80-100 more,  and most are used. Joan Rivers has lornettes and certain items do go for a lot more on the secondary market. That I know.  A 1996 lornette I had bought  broke. I had husband glue it. It was my favorite go to. I found it on eBay a month ago and I paid about 80 more for it. It was like new.   I have tons of Kirk's folly as well, and the early pieces, especially watches fo for a lot more than we paid.  I have Kirk's folly jacket/shawl people have tried to buy off me, I still wear it holidays. And that I saw sell once for nearly 300 bux. And it sold in a few days.  Never know.  What's old is mew again.
