The number 4 shown as IIII is correct, it is the additive form of Roman Numeral.  You could easily find this on all quality levels of watch including Cartier.  It seems most common that at the 5 marker the numbers start to be "upside down" but on this watch you sort of read around until 8 and then it flips.  I think it is designed that way on purpose.

+1 And it's an intentional design on a wide price-range of watches

For watches with radial dial faces, sometimes the numbers are oriented so that the bottom of ALL the numbers face towards the center.

But sometimes the numbers are oriented so that the bottom of numbers 9 through 3 are towards the center, while the TOP of numbers 4 through 8 are towards the center.

The Ripka London watch has the top of numbers 4 through 8 towards the center.

So does this Bulova watch that QVC is selling

And Patek Philippe

I never noticed this before.  I wonder if some of my own watches are like this?  Thanks for the information.
