Rubies? Is there a new source?

On the southern channel they were selling a fairly large ruby-I believe between one and two carats with colored diamonds setin silver for between $200.-$300. dollars. It did not seem to be an opaque ruby. Does anyone know the source for these. I read on the boards that amethyst is being "grown" from small amethyst crystals, therefore the abundance of fairly large colorful stones available.

Just curious, I have too much "stuff" and am quite happy with a created ruby purchased years ago.
