Repurposing watches and bracelets not being used...

Had a Vicenza large faced watch and an 18k gold bracelet that didn't get used for a long time. Finally took it to my jeweler friend and she created a watch bracelet that I now wear practically everyday. She also took a 5-stone double link bracelet, the top of a ring with the same stones and added a few gold links to create a very unique and beautiful ankle bracelet. Four pieces of jewelry transformed into two great pieces worn daily!!!! Imagine what's in your jewelry box!

I 're-purposed' two Raquel Welch necklaces and got 3 necklaces, a bracelet and beautiful cross pendant done in 18K white gold rondelles and pearls.

My friend is a jeweler and he re-strung a gorgeous quartz mixture torsade necklace into the two separate necklaces that are long enough to not need a clasp.

The 18K yellow gold toggle clasp was used for the bracelet.

I have 4 gold watches and the two panther link ones are bold and loose fitting and that's how I like them to be, more like gold bracelets with the advantage of giving time.

Well, clever you, jlkz! Brilliant idea! I'm having a gaudy pendant my DH gave me for my birthday years ago made into a station necklace and a brooch. 2 lovely pieces I'll wear often made from one huge, expensive-but-ugly piece I wouldn't wear to a dog fight. You're inspiring me to do more with some stuff I hardly ever wear.

Congrats Vegas! I gave away many pieces and repurposed those that had special meaning to me. It feels good to have given back to the boards after receiving so much in the way of ideas and products!!!

I've done that with a few pieces over the years too. It's a great way to spice up your jewelry.

Just be sure to find a good independent jeweler. Avoid the chains for things like this. I have a local jeweler who has an excellent team and they do all their own work. And their prices are more than reasonable.

Not all jewelers are good at designing. Things have to look good as well as feel good on the skin. Sometimes it makes more sense to double a chain than to have a single one. Stay away from Byzantine links: they catch on everything and you'll spend more $ repairing them over time. Too, a larger lobster claw closure will save you a lot of aggravation! especially as you get older and have to open/close the piece yourself!!! HTH

You can drape necklaces over the corner of a mirror.....or use them as tiebacks
