Ripka sold her company to XCEL Brands. According to WSJ, she received 29 million in cash, a lot of stock in EXCEL Brands and she received a percentage of the profits based on sales. She also signed a contract that she would continue with her brand as Chief Creative Designer for a period of time. It sounds like she will continue with her brand indefinitely. I think she was hurt in the down economy. She still has a couture website, but I think all or most of her stores were closed after the sale. Also in the works was to be an enlargement of her brand into other areas besides jewelry. This is all I remember. I still like Judith Ripka jewelry. I love to hear her talk about her designs. She clearly is involved with the designs and can talk about each design fluidly. I would agree her prices has risen a great deal in 20 years. I still purchase, but I am a lot more selective in my purchases.
