Two-thousand-sixteen saw the cancellation of California Gold Rush after 28 years, Big Bonanza Silver Day after 27, and Klondike Gold Rush after 28. Lastly, 17 years after being launched as Creede Mine Silver Strike at Midnight, October 2nd, 1999, QVC cancels the long-established jewelry event, wrapping up a combined one hundred years exactly of jewelry events celebrating the landmark mining disoveries that shaped America, and thus, QVC.
Jewelry isn't QVC's greatest category any longer, yet there was a time when over a hundred new items - over twenty million dollars-worth would be presented all day October 2nd. This year, not a single hour a silver jewelry is scheduled on Sunday, October 2nd, 2016, yet a full seven hours of Serta will feature yet another bedding or mattress Today's Special Value.
QVC and the QVC hosts for years told customers that October 2nd was Creede Silver Silver Strike, yet how does QVC show loyalty to those customers in 2016? Not by continuing their decades-long traditions of jewelry events yet with reduced hours to reflect their current inventory, but cancelling them outright without a formal announcement or apology! How does it make those feel who have a connection to these events, as soon as one ending, anticipating the next a year later?
October 2nd to me is a celebration of Nicholas Creede's discovery of the last great silver boom of the Old West, and more importantly, the silver event I looked forward to watching for 24-hours every year. If QVC isn't going to celebrate any longer, I have no choice but to turn QVC off and celebrate on my own. Here's to 41 days until my celebration of my favorite day of the year, October 2nd, the date of the once great, and now late, Creede Silver Strike.
Okay, but do you .... or anyone else .... know WHY this was cancelled?

IMO QVC is more and more becoming a channel that targets hoarders and shut-ins. (And naive grandparents who don't understand that their grandchildren don't want anything the Q has to offer, in spite of what it claims.)

Hi, thanks for replying Tinkrbl44. Actually, there may be a silver sale sometime in October, but I think it is assured it will not be called Creede. I admit Creede is a bit obscure, but it only takes a few seconds to explain. Nevertheless, around January 1 of this year, QVC stopped using what I call "QVC Jargon" words such as Epiphany, Hot Picks, California Gold Rush, Bronzo Italia, as well as adding "jewelry" to show titles where completley unneeded ( i.e. Silver Style Jewelry, Discover Diamonique Jewelry, Destination Gold Jewelry). I'm not sure who decided to stop using the names California Gold Rush etc. but I can tell you that QVC is not committed to silver and gold jewelry sales on the exact dates they've aired them in the past: they never have jewelry on Monday and Saturday because of fashion shows, Wednesday and Sunday because of cooking shows, and if scheduled on a Thursday, they probably would still have Susan Graver on. So, getting rid of the name has to do with not airing it on those silver or gold discovery anniversary days as well.

Thanks for your interest Pearly. In 2015, QVC aired their 28th Annual California Gold Rush Sale, 27th Annual Big Bonanza Silver Sale, and 28th Annual Klondike Gold Rush Sale. They did not mention how long they've been holding Creede, but I have a Program Guide and Insider Magazine from October 1999 when Creede Mine Silver Strike aired for 15 hours on October 2 and was labeled "new."

@banned again I used to look forward to their "silver days" but once they stopped offering interesting designs for a reasonable price and moved toward the "designer" silver at MUCH higher prices, I stopped paying as much attention. Like many of QVC's offerings, they have gotten stale. I have some really unique pieces in my jewelry wardrobe that were bought from QVC that I wear often and enjoy.
IMO they need new buyers.
I won't be watching the Serta shows as an alternative I can tell you that, too. If I was going to buy a mattress, I'd go look at it in person.
I watch less QVC since i will only watch shows/hosts that interest me. Keeps my buying down, too. Funny how that works.

well said @Kachina624. I've joined you in that process. Weekends are out and most of the weeknight shows, too. I have found "other things to do".

@Sooner I certainly agree with you about the Honora pearls. I do wear mine, although mostly in winter but I haven't bought anything new, again because the designs IMO are boring, in several years.
for myself though, I do wear my silver chains, there are days when I do my whole boho look with chains and pearls just for fun. You may be right though about other people not buying them. I only know what I like.

Kachina is always so succint and right on the money with her observations. I have really cut down on my buying, but now it will be even more. I have had to send back too much stuff because of bad fit.
I also think that there is very little variety of the Q programing, the products, and it definitely feels more like long infomercials than it used to feel.
I can only watch the older more seasoned hosts because the newer ones are simply awful and silly. Who can they appeal too?
I wish the Q would just have PM style on Mondays with no permanent host for three hours every week. They should have a real variety of items and brands. This would work. I don't like the personal shows. I am so frustrated with the Q with the lack of variety and constant focus on social media and not improving the products!

@faeriemoon or blind viewers, I kid you not.
A woman called in during one of the Vitamix presentations, stating she was blind and complimenting VM on how easy it is to operate.
That was a first for me!
