Longish article, but an interesting read. I learned that Ming pearls and Edison pearls are the same thing.

Yes, and Honorra sells thoughs ming pearls, and never once have I heard them say that the are hollow.

Ming/Edison pearls aren't hollow - that's the soufflé pearls. They are nucleated by dried pond muck, which is removed and washed out in the process of harvesting and drilling the pearls

Love pearls, but unless they are done by an expensive jeweler, like those dove earrings with the souffle pearls, the irregular shapes are out for me.
