I'm so very sorry you had to go through this, but glad no one was hurt. It is traumatic though. We have an alarm system (being from the Bronx, DH is a bit paranoid about safety). If you don't want that expense, there are small plastic stick up alarms you can buy at any hardware store that you can put on select doors - they emit a loud sound when the door is opened. We got them when the grandchildren were small to keep them out of some rooms (yeah, like their parents ever watched them - they liked going into my walk-in closet, pull everything down and make tents).

Thank you so much for your reply. If you look at further posts in jewelry you will see that I madee a mistake and said her watch was gold tone. It was silver tone and I reposted. But you were very sweet to respond to my post and I appreciate it very much.

After the fact there are special add on policies to insure jewelry. Too late I guess but at least you are all okay and were not harmed. As for jewelry, if it is important there should be a way to secure it (in the future). The little I have I put in a hamper with dirty clothes. Some are in a safe deposit box, but you know how that goes, you will never wear it. Too far away.
I have a sad history with jewelry. I hit my diamond on the kitchen sink long ago and broke it. (I should have been a stone cutter). Then it was stolen. My mother had a ring changed out in a jewelry store where she grew up. Exchanged for a QZ. My daughter caught it, she was a gemologist. Then my mother traveled and was knocked down and her very expensive necklace was stolen. Police just took the report, she never got it back. SO YOU COULD SAY I DON'T LIKE EXPENSIVE JEWELRY anyway.
I do have security on my house, an alarm that would wake up the neighborhood. And if anyone would break in well there is nothing here to steal of value. Long gone, given away, donated, sold, whatever.
Just glad you are okay.

How horrible. There are many desperate people out there who will do anything to get things to sell. Have you considered watching ebay?
We saw a guy on the side of the road last weekend while out on our motorcycle with tools on the hood of his car with a small sign. It was out in the middle of no where. My first thought, hot items, stolen from another's garage.
I gave my QVC armoire away because it was just a great place to store things in one place and convienent for a robber to just pick up and cart off. A gunsafe bolted to the floor or most of your collection put in a safety deposit box is a better option. Home alarm systems are also a good way to know who is in the house at night, or day. A safe and cheap one may be this....
Cheap to buy, easy to install and small monthy fee, no contract.

My home was robbed 8 years ago, and jewelry was the only thing taken. The State Police who investigated, told us jewelry is one of the easiest things to take, because it's usually stored in a jewelry box out in the open and is easy to find, can be quickly stuffed into pockets, and is easy to pawn for quick cash. We went to every pawn shop and gold buyer in this county, and 2 surrounding counties, but none of our jewelry ever surfaced. Our insurance agent said the trend at that time was to mail the jewelry out of state to dealers who would assess the value, and then mail a check to the thief!

Webe, I'm sorry you and your daughter are going through this. I'm a maniac about keeping my jewelry safe. We have a home safe, I put the most valuable pieces into a safe deposit box at the bank and we have a home security system.
Still, even with all that, we had tenants steal from us when they moved out, over $2000 worth of furniture, one was a piece we will never be able to replace. No matter how much you try, you can still be a victim.
I hope you are able to find the info you need. And I'm glad you're safe. I remember SO well how violated and angry I felt when they stole from us. LE knows who they are and still, we've never heard anything about them being arrested and charged and we've known where they moved to since it happened.
