Re: Over the Top Ridiculous Prices

I agree ... I watched some of shows (briefly) yesterday. I like the Bixby jewelry, but I can think of lots of other things I can use that amount of money for. I'm shocked by the price of the leather cord necklace with a little silver and microscopic gold. My money stayed in my pocket.

The amethyst show that came on later, in the wee hours, was nice. Half of the items were less than $100.

Actually, it's not over $600.00 now and wasn't for the shows....but Barbara doesn't use diamonique or clad. She uses sterling and casted 18K as well as real stones. To each his own, but let's keep things in perspective, ok? I have the enhancer in question and it's a very heavy silver piece with a TON of intricate work on it. Worth every penny. As someone who has a birthday in May, I was attracted to some of Ripka's emerald offerings, but then she sprinkled diamonique all over them and ruined it for me. Why would anyone put a precious gem with fakes? Sorry, no offense to those who love that or her, but I don't get the mix.

I can't imagine that the emeralds used in this case are much more expensive than the diamonique. My husband is a May baby and I wanted to incorporate emeralds into my wedding ring. They are tiny emerald stones alternating with diamonds in a thin eternity band and those stones were SO expensive. Granted they are beautiful, clear and bright green but I would never want murky and cloudy even if real. So, I guess the motto here is to each his/her own. Everyone has their own definition of what is precious and what they do or do not like.

I have many older Ripka pieces and would prefer no diamonque and just good semi-precious stones that are pretty affordable but that does not appear to be the direction this line is headed.

She is in some very exclusive stores. I think her prices are for her name. The items she sells at barneys, Neiman's and other stores are real gems and real gold or silver.

Shoekitty, yesterday as I was watching the show, I searched on-line for her pieces. Maybe the items are sold in stores and not on-line but Neimans website only had 2 pieces, Barneys showed nothing for her and Nordstrom dropped her line. The only place I saw that had a decent selection was Saks.

Sam's Club carries Ripka, and I've seen Ripka at TJMaxx.

I love TJMaxx, but I don't consider them to be exclusive. {#emotions_dlg.biggrin}

Nor Sam's Club. LOL

I also don't think they are the high-end dept. stores the hosts are always talking about that carry JR. {#emotions_dlg.laugh}

to the OP: ita. Some of her designs are really nice but the prices she charges aren't. But I guess she'll keep doing it until buyers won't pay it.

No one's being insulted...unless they want to be. To say her jewelry, with all the plating and fake stones, is not a good value isn't an insult; it's just the truth. A lot of people don't care or don't have to care about value and buy JR's jewelry. If you can afford it and understand that her prices are high value, enjoy yourself. Unfortunately, I can't afford to not care.

Yep...never bought a Ripka piece and never will. Her stuff is pretty, but way too pricey.

Let me just clarify something. I am personally would never pay this much money for what they sell. And I do not own ANY of JR pieces (not liking the quality), ANY of BB (not my style).I just love to watch jewelry shows. Simple as that. Sparkly things make me happy.

The reason of my post was the very first responder who called all the ladies buying expensive pieces IDIOTS. That in my books is insulting, may be our upbringing was different and level of communication in different families are different , but if my Mama heard me call a person idiot, she would smack me (and we do not have Dreyfus in Europe).

So I think we can express our opinions any way we like it, but since English is such rich language it could be done so much nicer. Even if they choose to spend an unreasonable amount of money.

Re: Over the Top Ridiculous Prices

QVC is obviously selling JR, Dawkins and Bixby very well and turning a profit or they would not feature them. Esposito, RLM, and other lines are gone and either they were not profitable or the designer wanted a larger cut of the pie. I am not a big Sterling wearer but have a few Bixby and Ripka rings and glad I bought them years ago when the prices were not crazy.

Re: Over the Top Ridiculous Prices

I know I'm in the minority, but I've never "got" the appeal of Judith Ripka's QVC jewelry. Way overpriced and well, ugly. Not my style at all. If people like it and can afford it, more power to them. I wouldn't buy any...........
